Carolanne Marcantonio LCSW, SIFI, CST is the co-creator of the sex therapy association Wise Therapy located in New York City. Wise Therapy is a LGBTQIA+, poly and kink affirmative Sex Therapy association. Carolanne provides therapy to couples individuals and polycules. She is an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist (CST). Carolanne earned her Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College in Manhattan. She has worked for more than a decade as a sexual health educator and provided individual counseling on sexual health issues to clients at The LGBT Community Center in Manhattan. Carolanne worked at Babeland, a sex-positive, education-based, unionized, sex toy shop, for 6 years. During her time there she created workshops and led classes on sexual health at numerous colleges and agencies, including Cornell University, SUNY Downstate Medical College, Hofstra University, the Job Path’s Sexual Health Conference hosted at The New York Times Building, and Callen-Lorde’s Sexual Health Conference.
Her time at The LGBT Center also included creating and teaching a workshop titled “Sex and Intimacy after Cancer” for the Lesbian Cancer Initiative. Prior to working in private practice, she co-facilitated support groups within the LGBTQ community, such as Commit to Quit, a smoking cessation group, and Positive Care, a support group for gay, bi and trans men newly diagnosed with HIV.
She has a strong belief in creating the change you wish to see in the world by promoting social justice, LGBTQIA+ rights, feminism, and sex-positivity in our personal and work environments. She acknowledges there is a range of gender expressions, consensual sexual behaviors and sexualities that should be celebrated. She is dedicated to the idea that everybody deserves to have a vibrant, joyful and unafraid life.
Growing up in the subculture of punk, she learned at a young age the importance of honoring your sexual being in order to embrace your full body and mind health. She believes strongly in feminism, sexual empowerment, sex positivity (the idea that any and all consensual/age appropriate sexual acts are healthy and positive), LGBTQIA+ equality and understanding the systemic impact racism, classism, homophobia and sexism has on individuals and their environment.
