Mr. Fabián Sergio Wander is the Director of the Health and Wellness Office at Hostos Community College and also founder of Wander Counseling, a mental health practice that incorporates Walk and Talk therapy in addition to the traditional office based treatment approach. He received his Master’s in Social Work from Fordham University and has been working as a Social Worker for over 17 years.  Fabián is licensed by the State of New York as a Clinical Social Worker. In his role as Director of the Health and Wellness office, he oversees the staff nurse, the Wellness office, One Stop and two special programs. One program is focused on supporting student parent’s health and achieving academic success. The other program is focused on supporting victims/survivors of intimate partner violence at Hostos.  

Fabián’s clinical experience includes: a college counseling center, private practice, an inpatient traumatic brain injury unit, mental health clinics, mobile crisis unit, substance abuse, HIV, family court and child protective services with a specialization in childhood sexual abuse and trauma. He is also trained in diagnosis and treatment of PTSD and a certified Emergency Psychological Technician.  

In June of 2016, Fabián completed a Fellowship with We Are The Bronx, WATB which focused on developing non for profit leaders serving communities in The Bronx. He was also completed the 2017 CUNY Executive Leadership program.  

Fabián currently serves on several internal and external committees or partnerships including; The Bronx Domestic Violence Roundtable, The Bronx Immigration Partnership, Co-Chair of The Bronx Emotional Wellness steering Committee, and a member of the Hostos Community College Food Studies working group. Fabián also serves as a volunteer with the NYC Medical Reserve Corps.  

Though his tenure at Hostos Community College, Fabián has serviced students by providing counseling to students struggling in domestic violence relationships and advocacy for those with immigration challenges.  

At Hostos Community College, Fabián helps students gain a greater sense of control over their challenges and promotes flexibility in how students respond to obstacles in their lives.
